31 May 2024, Zug, Manila
Blocksport’s COO Samir Ceric and United City FC’s President & CEO Eric Gottschalk will engage in a discussion, moderated by AIBC’s MD Olga Yaroshevsky, on why Web3 matters and how football clubs both in South East Asia, as well as globally (off the back of forward thinking clubs such as Juventus FC & Paris Saint-Germain FC), can leverage blockchain technology for the benefit of fans and clubs, as well as sponsors and partners that today expect a great deal more from their sponsored properties when it comes down to their own ROIs.
The discussion takes place during the Sports and Tech conference, held at the SMX Convention Centre in Manila as part of the AIBC Asia event.
Data ownership and data management that fan engagement platforms, such as the one Blocksport has successfully deployed with United City FC, the first Philippines football club to fully embrace the power of Web3, are integral to the commercial success of sporting properties across the globe, and the sooner the clubs’ owners and senior management realise it, the better for them and their fans.
Fans are no longer satisfied with the basic level of interaction with the clubs they support via ticket and merchandise sale – they want a great deal more – which is the reason they have started organising themselves in fan clubs, creating content, sharing content and consuming content they understand much better than the club owners.
We are in the era of shared economy and shared content, and fans and fan clubs are at the epicentre of it all. GenZ and Gen Alpha are not your Millennials – and unless something is done about it in terms of the offering, treatment and engagement, they will drift away and build their own ecosystem. Football clubs (and other sports and sporting properties) will miss out a great deal as well as lose their existing fan base, let alone attract a new one.
Club owners can no longer remain ignorant to what is happening in this day and age; if they do, they will soon be out of business. This session will tackle various challenges, as well as opportunities in the Web3 & the sports space, and discuss how United City FC in partnership with Blocksport is approaching it from all angles, innovating and pioneering not only in the sport industry of the Philippines but the South East Asian region too.
“Web3 matters, there are no two ways about it”, says Samir Ceric, COO of Blocksport.
“Our solution – Web3 Made Easy – is designed to educate and empower those making decisions in the world of football and in the world of sport as a whole. I sincerely hope that the audience in Manila will appreciate our holistic approach to Fan Engagement and Web3 education. I am very much looking forward to the session on 4 June, 2024 and am thankful to AIBC for recognising the real need to introduce the multiple sessions on web3 & sport, including the one with Mr Eric Gottschalk, President and CEO of United City FC and myself!”
